Use little-and-often practice
Five to ten minutes on most days is enough. Begin with a table the child partly knows, mix the order of questions and revisit mistakes at the end. Stop while concentration is still good.
Practise connections, not isolated chants
- Connect 6 × 4 with 4 × 6.
- Use 5 × 8 to work out 6 × 8.
- Link multiplication and division facts.
- Notice patterns in the 9, 10 and 11 times tables.
Add gentle timed practice later
Accuracy comes first. Once answers are secure, introduce brief timed rounds so the format feels familiar. If timing creates anxiety, return to untimed recall and rebuild confidence before trying again.
